Insulin Pump Therapy

An insulin pump is a medical device used for the management of insulin in the treatment of diabetes. The device includes: the pump itself, a disposable reservoir for insulin and a disposable infusion set which includes a tube (cannula) for subcutaneous insertion and a tubing arrangement to line the insulin reservoir to the cannula. The insulin pump therapy is a substitute to multiple daily injections of insulin by insulin syringe or pen and it permits for intensive insulin therapy when used in combination with blood glucose monitoring and carb counting.
